TWolves got blasted for the airport welcome. But it’s clear Rubio loved it. Made him feel welcome. So mission accomplished.
Associated Press writer Jon Krawczynski via Twitter on the Wolves newest point guard Ricky Rubio and how Rubio feels about playing for Minnesota.
Minnesota Love for Ricky Rubio

Around 200 Minnesota Timberwolves fans and employees finally got a chance to meet their future point guard after two long years of waiting.

Ricky Rubio arrived today at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport escorted by Wolves President David Kahn to the cheers & admiration of Minnesota.

Donning a TWolves cap he walked through the airport signing autographs and shaking hands of the Minnesota faithful.  A chant of RICK-Y, RICK-Y broke out and as Jon Krawczynski of Associate Press put it via Twitter, it was a “Rubio Circus”.  Adding that it could really give Rubio a sense that he’s wanted in Minnesota which could ease the transition.

Ricky is going to give a press conference tomorrow at the Target Center (FSN will be live at 10am tomorrow with that), like most, I’ll have my Spanish dictionary ready as Spanish is not my strong suit or as Kevin Love put it, via Twitter: “Does anyone have Rosette Stone entry level Spanish I can use?” also adding “Happy to see MN spread love as they welcome Ricky to Minnesota.”

Ricky took to Twitter to thank the fans and employees saying: “I just arrive to the hotel here in MN.  I was so impressive in da airport.  Thanks a lot of u guys.  I feel comfortable here.  Time to rest!!!”

Pictures and video to be posted soon!  Stay Tuned!

Rubio to Minnesota Official!

A recent report has broke that has stated that Ricky Rubio will join the Minnesota Timberwolves for the ‘11-‘12 season (whenever it may begin).

Dan Barreiro of KFAN was the first to tweet that the Minnesota Timberwolves have come to a deal with Ricky Rubio to join them next year.  The contract was apparently finalized yesterday.  Jerry Zgoda and Jon Krawczynski have also confirmed this report via Twitter!!

More to follow and I’m sure the Timberwolves will be holding a press conference sometime in the near future.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for a full-story.  GO WOLVES!!

May 31st Rubio ‘Deadline’

UPDATE: May 31st 5:11pmCT.  Jon Krawczynski an AP Sports Writer for the TWolves added a few notes to the Rubio situation.  First off, according to Jon, David Kahn has been telling season-ticket holders that Rubio will be in a TWolves uniform next season (for the ‘11-‘12 campaign).  Second, the Wolves have been working on a local package of endorsements to cover the costs of Rubio’s buyout.  He also added, that just because the TWolves haven’t announced anything today, that doesn’t mean they haven’t signed him already, they may be waiting for the end of his season in Europe.

Yet another story involving Ricky Rubio and the Minnesota Timberwolves…

The TWolves are at the deadline for Ricky Rubio to sign a contract that would allow him to sign at the current rookie scale.  That deadline is today (Tuesday May 31st) at the end of the business day.

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, Rubio would have had to sign today to avoid the new CBA that could cause a lockout this summer and for part or even all of next season: one reason, I’m sure, that Rubio is hesitant (to say the least) to come over.

A spokesman for the Wolves says that the team will most likely not be making any comments on the Rubio situation until his season in Europe ends (sometime in June).

This, obviously won’t be the last we hear about Rubio and the Timberwolves, stay tuned all summer long for updates and news & information.  Until then, thanks for reading and GO WOLVES!
