More Trade Rumors for #2 pick Emerge

The 2011 NBA Draft is just 6 days away and the Timberwolves are still drawing interest for their #2 pick.

There are a number of different trade scenarios that have emerged since the May Draft Lottery.  From Indiana the Pacers reportedly offered Danny Granger for the #2 & Beasley.  The Wizards were another team that are interested in the #2 pick and a trade that featured JaVale McGee & the #6.  The Phoenix Suns are yet another team that is reportedly ‘very’ interested in the Wolves’ #2 pick.  The Wolves are interested in the veteran point guard: Steve Nash.  Suns’ big man: Marcin Gortat is another interest for Minnesota.  The Raptors reported offer of DeMar DeRozan and the #5 for Jonny Flynn & the #2 were yet another.

Today, another couple trade rumors emerged.  The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly are offering Pau Gasol to Minnesota for Kevin Love and the #2 pick.  Pau Gasol’s name has come up before, but this is the first time the Lakers have actually expressed interest in All-Star Kevin Love-who played his college basketball at UCLA and whose hometown is just North in Oregon.  Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune says that the TWolves are certainly interested in Pau, but definitely not for Love and probably not for the #2.

The other rumor that seems to have emerged today is from the Milwaukee Bucks.  The Bucks are apparently interested in obtaining the #2 pick and rumor is that the Bucks are offering center Andrew Bogut and the #10 for the #2.  However, Frank Madden stated via Twitter that if the Bucks had initiated these talks with Minnesota, the deal would already be done as Bogut & 10 for 2 would be a no-brainer for Minny.  There’s no doubt that when Andrew Bogut is healthy he’s one of the top 2-3 centers in the NBA.

As we wind down the final days till draft night, these rumors will continue to circulate and I’m sure more will emerge.  Remember to stay tuned for daily updates on all TWolves news, information & updates all year round.  Thanks for reading and GO WOLVES!

Wizards Pushing Hard for Derrick Williams?

The Washington Wizards are reportedly VERY high on Arizona’s Derrick Williams, who is projected to go #2 by almost all mock drafts and analysts.  That of course means they’d have to swing a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the #2 pick in this month’s draft (23rd).

The Minnesota Timberwolves have spoke recently and although they have teetered back-and-forth on whether they intend to keep the pick, there stance currently, is that they would like to keep the pick and the player they draft with it.  However, many ‘observers’ disagree.

The Washington Wizards are looking for someone in the small forward/power forward position to replace either Rashard Lewis or Andray Blatche in the starting lineup (one of or both of these players could become available if they get Williams).

However, a recent report states that although the Wizards are very interested in Williams, they aren’t one of the most active teams trying to trade up to the #2 pick.  Reportedly, the Wizards haven’t made any offers yet, but that doesn’t mean they won’t by draft night.

One trade scenario that I found rather interesting came from Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune via Twitter.  Zgoda tossed out a scenario of Minnesota’s #2 pick for Washington’s #6 pick and the young athletic center JaVale McGee.  The Minnesota Timberwolves have stated since grabbing the #2 pick in the Lottery, if they’re going to make a trade they’d like a veteran big man.

The other team, beyond the Wizards that’re looking hard at the #2 pick, are the Phoenix Suns.  One trade scenario there could be Steve Nash for the Wolves’ #2 pick.  The Wolves are EXTREMELY high on Nash and have stated in the past that they’d like to bring him in to be a mentor to the young Ricky Rubio.  Unlikely, but a possibility.

Chad Ford of ESPN has also stated that Cleveland, Utah, Golden State, Houston, Indiana, Philadelphia, Memphis and the LA Lakers have shown interest in “trading up”.

That’s all for now.  The NBA Draft is now just 3 weeks away and this certainly isn’t the last trade rumors we’ll hear regarding the Wolves’ #2 pick.  Thanks for reading and remember to visit this site all year round, bringing you all your up-to-date TWolves news, information and updates.  GO WOLVES!

SMALL FORWARD! Derrick Williams

During Derrick Williams’ session with the media yesterday (5/19), he made it abundantly clear that he was and will be a “3” (small forward) in the NBA, not a “4” (power forward).  That’s the position he feels he is best suited for and he backed that up by saying, “Whoever picks me will find that out.  I’m just a lot more skilled than people think I am.

In a tweet by Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune, Zgoda commented that the one thing Williams didn’t lack was confidence.

Williams feels he’s the best player in the draft and he has his sights set on the Rookie of the Year Award.  ”I’m not cocky or anything, but that’s the main focus right now, to win the Rookie of the Year.”

After interviewing with the TWolves brass, Williams declared that the Wolves have a chance to select this year’s best player with the draft’s second pick next month.

Williams has had two successful years at the collegiate level and is ready to take his talents to the NBA.  In a year he’s gone from possible first-round pick, to one of the draft’s top two players.  The question is, will he be a “Wolf”?

With the “logjam” of forwards on the TWolves roster: (Beasley, Webster, Hayward, Love, Randolph and Tolliver), Williams will likely not be a “Timberwolf” next season.  As noted before, the Timberwolves are in trade talks about moving the #2 pick and it’s believed if they don’t move the pick, they may take Turkish big man Enes Kanter at #2.

Pacers Eyeing #2 Pick?

Since the NBA Lottery, the Timberwolves have suggested they would be willing to trade the #2 pick in the Draft for a proven-veteran.

Earlier today, Sam Amico of Fox Sports stated that the Pacers are making a serious play for the #2 pick.  According to Amico, Danny Granger of Indiana is being mentioned.  As are Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio & Michael Beasley.

Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD added that, Minnesota has a lot of youth and talent on their roster, but they want a meaningful player back and may actually be asking too much.  Kennedy also added that the Pacers have had Granger as a trade chip so it makes sense, but Beasley wouldn’t fit the ‘culture’ in Indiana.

Kennedy aslo added that, the Pacers may be looking at Enes Kanter with the #2 pick as starting power forward, but that may not be the case as Tyler Hansborough played well at the end of the season.

Rigged? Kahn: “I was joking!” Fine Coming?

Another Timberwolves appearance at the Draft Lottery and yet another evening of disappointment for our franchise.  The TWolves had the best mathematical chance of snagging the top pick in this years draft (25%), however the top pick went to the Cleveland Cavaliers (via the Los Angeles Clippers) which had a 2.8% chance of snagging the #1 pick.

Was it rigged?  Who knows?  However, it seems David Kahn believes…maybe.  The President of Operations for the Wolves was the representative this year at the Lottery and afterwards he spoke briefly to the media. “This League has a habit, and I am just going to say habit, of producing some pretty incredible story lines.  Last year it was Abe Pollin’s widow and this year it was a 14-year-old boy and the only thing we have in common is we have both been bar mitzvahed.  We were done.  I told Kevin: ‘We’re toast’.  This is not happening for us and I was right.”

This ‘14-year-old boy’ Kahn is referring to is the son of Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert: Nick Gilbert.  A young boy living with and surviving through a disease called: Nuerofibromatosis-a nerve disorder that causes tumors to grow anywhere on the body at anytime.  Of course there’s more than just that.  A year after their superstar fled his hometown for the glory of Miami, the Cavaliers have a chance to rebuild quickly after just a season of turmoil, now that they have the #1 & #4 picks in next months draft.  Can they thank David Stern?  Who knows!

Who knows, hopefully we won’t be back at the lottery anytime soon, I guarantee you we won’t be next season.  Do I have that much confidence in the TWolves?  I think so, but more importantly, the Los Angeles Clippers currently own the 1st round draft pick of the Timberwolves for the 2012 Draft.

A day after the Draft Lottery, David Kahn stated: “I was joking!”  Stating that what he said previously was intended to be a joke.  In a statement to the Associated Press, he said he wasn’t suggesting a conspiracy of any kind.  Also stating that he doesn’t believe in jinxes or curses, but he does however believe in the ‘power of a story’ and last night for a 14-year kid to win the lotto against a bunch of middle-aged executives was a much better story.  To watch the post-Lottery comments Kahn made to the press, watch the video in the previous post on this site.

There hasn’t been any word from Commissioner David Stern yet, if David Kahn will be fined for his above comments.  According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the League is currently evaluating whether or not to fine Kahn.  I’m sure we’ll hear soon enough.

Wolves to Trade the #2 Pick?

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ trip to the NBA Lottery had them slip down once again.  The TWolves had the best mathematical chance at the #1 pick (25%), but fell to #2 as the Cleveland Cavaliers grabbed the top spot thanks to the Los Angeles Clippers’ pick that went up 7 spots from #8 to #1.

As such, the Minnesota Timberwolves have already stated that they may trade the pick, either to trade down in the Draft or to grab a veteran player-maybe both!

The Cleveland Cavaliers have the #1 and #4 picks and it is almost certain that they will be selecting Kyrie Irving with that top pick.  The obvious next choice: talent-wise is Derrick Williams out of Arizona.  A versatile scoring forward, something they already possess in Beasley.  Other options include the Turkish center Enes Kanter & Bismack Biyombo, both have had their names linked to the Timberwolves.  With Biyombo however, the TWolves could certainly trade down in the draft and get him in the 7th or 8th pick.

Some of the names that Wolves reporters, fans and NBA analysts have been throwing out as far as possible veteran players for the Wolves include: Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies, Monta Ellis of the Golden State Warriors, Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers, Ben Gordon of the Detroit Pistons…these are obviously just a few of the names that are being thrown around.

I’m sure we’ll have more information as we draw closer to that June 23rd Draft night.  For now, you can find all your up-to-date information and news on the Minnesota Timberwolves all offseason long right here.  Thanks for reading and GO WOLVES!

David Kahn’s reactions post-NBA Lottery last night

Rubio Deal “Close”

First and foremost, I assure you, the above image is photoshopped, so don’t get too excited Wolves fans!  That being said, according to sources, the Minnesota Timberwolves are extremely optimistic that their “future point guard” will be sporting the blue & green for the ‘11-‘12 campaign…whenver that may begin.

Word is GM David Kahn is on the verge of signing the ‘09 Draft pick after multiple tries in multiple summers.  Although nothing is yet finalized, things should be “coming together” in the coming weeks.

If Rubio does sign that creates the NBA Draft debacle.  Theoretically if the Wolves get the top pick (they have the greatest mathematical chance: 25%), then the choice has to be point guard Kyrie Irving, as he is the best player in the draft.  Come May 17th (the NBA Lottery date) if the Wolves obtain that top pick and they’re able to sign Rubio, you can expect the Wolves to trade the top pick for a veteran for their “League’s Youngest Team”.

Obviously a lot of scenarios, but something to keep an eye on.  Stay tuned to <minnesotatimberwolves.tumblr.com> for all your TWolves Offseason news.  Until then, thanks for reading and GO WOLVES!

“Pay the Pick” Promo

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently have a promo for the upcoming season.  You can currently buy season-tickets for the 2011-12 season at a big discount.  For “upper-deck” seats at the Target Center you can pay (per game) the amount that’s equal to the Timberwolves pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Depending on where the Wolves end up on the board, will depend on the price per ticket.  If the Wolves get the 1st pick it’ll be $1 a ticket, 2nd pick $2 a ticket, 3rd pick $3 a ticket or 4th pick $4 a ticket.  The farthest the Wolves can fall from the #1 pick is the 4th pick.  The TWolves have the best chance of any NBA team to obtain the #1 pick (25%).

The NBA Lottery is coming up next week (Tuesday May 17th).  A full-update will be made available on this site before and after Tuesday.

In order to be eligible for the promotion, fans must purchase their tickets prior to the Draft Lottery @7pm on May 17th.  If interested you can visit the Timberwolves site for more information.

For now, that’s all I’ve got.  Stay tuned all offseason for all your up-to-date TWolves news right here.  Until then, thanks for reading and as always GO WOLVES!

Rambis Timetable

General Manager David Kahn and Assistant GM Tony Ronzone returned from Spain earlier this week after spending a week there keeping in contact with draft picks: Henk Norel, Nemanja Bjelica, Paolao Prestes and of course Ricky Rubio.

The fact of the matter is, the Wolves’ season has been over for over a month now and Rambis’ future as the Timberwolves head coach moving on into the future is still “up in the air”.

Kahn sees no reason to rush the decision which leads to some certain speculation.  Is he waiting on a possible coach that’s still in the playoffs as a possible replacement ie: Mavs’  assistant Dwayne Casey).  There are certainly a lot of reasons, but there is one that Kahn has said since the beginning of the Wolves’ offseason and that was that he’d not rush into any decision and take his time, with his staff and owner Glen Taylor to evaluate Rambis’ tenure these past two seasons with the Wolves.

You can find a whole list of potential replacements for Rambis in a previous post on this blog: Possible Coaching Options for Wolves or by following the link below…

http://minnesotatimberwolves.tumblr.com/post/4851796107/possible-coaching-options-for-the-wolves#disqus_thread

For now, Wolves fans will have to wait on any coaching news from Minny.  However, my thought and the logical thought is that the Timberwolves would likely have their coach fired and/or hired before the June draft!

For now, that’s all I’ve got.  The NBA Lottery will be taking place May 17th and a full-update can be found on this site before and after then.  You can also find all your up-to-date TWolves information right here.  Until then, thanks for reading and GO WOLVES!
